Lacey, Michael | DOB: July 31st, 1980
FC MMIX debut: August 2009, vs MKXI (8-2 victory)
After first coming to our attention during the Stantonbury sessions in 2005, Mikey was another of the former MKDSAFC players to move across with FC MMIX in the summer of 2009. Like several of his team-mates he had been decorated in the local leagues over previous years, particularly with Central Barbers FC who were regarded as one of the strongest and most feared 7-a-side teams to have ever graced the MK leagues – as well as featuring in 11-a-side action for Lavendon FC and Great Linford.
Total 2009/10 appearances: 24 (3 goals)
Another of the more reliable and dependable players to have featured throughout the season, Mikey was a mainstay of the midfield and featured alongside a whole host of central midfield partners as he clocked up 24 appearances from a possible 27. Calm on the ball, composed in possession and not afraid to go for goal, he netted 3 times during the campaign including a quick-fire brace against MKXI in September 2009 and could always be relied upon to run himself into the ground for the cause.
Total 2010/11 appearances: 21 (4 goals)
Mikey made less appearances in 2010/11 after struggling with shin, ankle and calf complaints but had an arguably more successful season than the last, scoring several key goals – including the one that secured a well deserved 2-2 draw with the Open University in January 2011 – and racking up a whole host of assists as well. An ankle injury suffered during the Bill Johnson Supplementary Cup semi-final victory over New City Saints threatened to end his season early, but his determination brought him back sooner than expected and he recovered in time to pick up a winners medal, coming on as a 2nd half substitute in the 3-1 final victory over AFC Santander.
