Bird, David | 22/02/92
FC MMIX debut: August 2009, vs MKXI (8-2 victory)
David first sprung to attention during his time with South Spartan Midlands League side Old Bradwell United, debuting in February 2009 against Risborough Rangers and even forcing his way into making a first team appearance in the same season despite being just 17-years of age, before fleeting appearances in the local smaller sided leagues really emphasised his potential and ability.
Total 2009/10 appearances: 15 (2 goals)
Featuring mainly as a squad player for the first half of the 2009/10 season, David put in a series of impressive and exciting displays in the heart of the midfield whenever he got the chance and then really came into his own in 2010, installing himself as a necessity in the matchday squad and earning rave reviews in the process. Calm on the ball, ferocious in the tackle and with the ability to pick apart defences with his passing, he featured in 10 of the last 13 games of 2009/10 and catapulted himself up the pecking order in the process.
Total 2010/11 appearances: 13 (1 goal)
David began 2010/11 as a regular in the matchday squad, only missing 3 games between the start of the season and the end of October but then, after being forced to sit out the 5-3 victory over Stoke Hammond MK in November through suspension, he only appeared one more time – as a half-time substitute in the 3-1 friendly victory over MKDSAFC in March 2011 – before the end of the season as prior commitments kept him from committing on a regular basis. Rumours were a plenty that David had played in an MMIX shirt for the last time but surprisingly, and delightfully, reappeared in the close season and committed for yet another year.
