Injury news

FC MMIX have been dealt a huge blow as Des Clark has now been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Clark, a regular during 2010/11 – a season where he notched up 19 goals and 17 assists in just 31 competitive fixtures – was forced to miss the first half of 2011/12 after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery during the summer but his recovery appeared nearly complete after he was named as an unused substitute for the league games against Stantonbury Social and Stacey Bushes, with it appearing that he was only a matter of days away from a long awaited first team comeback.

However, a fall a week ago has seen the striker come midfielder suffer a huge setback and he is now facing an even lengthier spell on the sidelines, as well as the prospect of more potential surgery.

A club statement said: “This is a huge blow, not only for the club but most importantly for Des himself. He was fit, and ready, and appeared on the cusp of appearing in an MMIX shirt again with no adverse reactions to any of the work he was doing on his knee. Des will still continue in his role as assistant manager for the foreseeable future and will, obviously, have our full and undivided support in his recovery so that hopefully we can see him in an MMIX shirt again sooner rather than later.”

In more positive news though, Rob Whittaker is now back in full training and should be in contention for a place in the matchday squad in the coming weeks after having not featured for the club since the final day of 2010/11 due to ankle and hip complaints.
