In the summer of 2009, we said this:

It all started with an idea. A stupid, stupid idea. But the fact that you’re now reading this tells us that maybe, just maybe, said idea wasn’t quite so stupid after all…

How do you start a Sunday League club from scratch? And more importantly, why would you even want to? You and a bunch of your friends have been playing competitively together for a couple of years, and the team you have been playing for falls into a hiatus and eventually disappears. So what do you do?

Do you decide on the option that involves you sourcing sponsorship? Designing a badge and kit? Finding and securing a league standard home ground? Assembling a committee? Applying and being accepted into the MK Sunday League? Affiliating yourselves to the FA? Organising trial sessions? Scouting players from here, there and everywhere and putting them together into something that resembles a squad? Ordering balls, pegs, tape, nets, water bottles, first aid kits, and everything else? And having to do it all, completely self financed and motivated? Yeah, because THAT’S the easy option…! But THAT is exactly what FC MMIX have done.

FC MMIX; formed in 2009 from nothing but a few people with a dream. And now we’re living it.

And now, over one year on, that dream is well and truly still alive.

An eye opening, largely successful learning curve of a 2009/10 has put FC MMIX in a position to rebuild, restructure and push on like never before – for many seasons to come. A wise man once said that “if you can be in a position, at the end of your first season, to realistically be around for a 2nd… Then you’ve done what you needed to do”.

But FC MMIX won’t rest there. This was never going to be a quick fix. A flash in the pan. A one-hit wonder. FC MMIX are here to stay, for years to come, and will not cease until every possible foundation is laid in order to ensure that they do just that.

2009/10 had everything – victories; defeats; hat-tricks; red cards; last minute heartbreak; extra-time winning goals; cup runs; grudge matches; and a whole lot of learning..

We discovered things about each other – about our team-mates, and our friends – that we didn’t even know were there to be found. We defied the odds and held higher, tougher opposition. We secured a 3rd placed finish in our first ever season, finishing higher than teams that had been around for far longer. We grouped together and wouldn’t be defeated by the winter weather; we braved the cold, frozen pitches and we battled on the rain-soaked, mud-ridden turf. Crowded changing rooms, broken showers, the smell of Deep Heat, the smell of a brand new match ball, putting on that last bit of sock tape… Get your head on, it’s game time.

Self funded, self motivated, self inspired, we’re the ones that keep this going and we’re the ones that will continue to do so. Everything, it’s all us.
